VERSE: No matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him, the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. 2 CORINTHIANS 1:20, NIV

If you’re a Christian and you’re honest with yourself, then you know that sometimes when God speaks, it doesn’t sound like what you want to hear. In fact, it sounds like the exact opposite of what you want to hear. And if the survey is any indication, most Christians don’t spend much time and energy listening for those kinds of things.

But I have some good news for you: there is a way to hear God in ways that will not only change your life but also give Him glory!

God isn't an angry, vengeful God who's looking for ways to punish you. He's a loving Father who wants to give you the best life possible.

He knows you're going to mess up sometimes, so He gives us full permission to listen for His "yes." That doesn't mean He endorses everything we desire or promises to fulfill every whim. But He is kindly predisposed toward us and is far more willing to give than we think He is. We tend to assume "no" as His default answer with an occasional "yes" thrown in, but it's really the other way around. We don't have to listen pessimistically—we can start listening expectantly!

When we hear the voice of God, it's usually in the form of a promise. We might be praying for something, or someone might be asking us to do something, and suddenly He makes it clear that He is on our side.

We can't help but get all excited about that—we know we've got His attention, and we're going to get what we want. But what happens when we don't get what we want?

It's easy to get discouraged when the things we ask for don't come true right away. When they don't come true at all! In fact, it can feel like God has forgotten about us completely.

But here's the thing: God never promised that our prayers will always be answered in exactly the way we imagined them. Instead, He promises that if we believe in Him enough to trust that He knows what's best for us (and you know what? He does), then when He answers our prayers with a "no," it's because He already has something better planned out for us than whatever we asked Him for in the first place!

That means we never need to listen pessimistically and can invest our time in hearing Him without fear of wasting it. He rewards those who seek Him with faith and high expectations.

Lord, I will not shy away from Your voice; Your perfect love overcomes all my fear. I run toward Your “yes” with an “amen” in my heart. Fulfill Your promise in me.
